I have learned to prize holy ignorance more highly than religious certainty and to seek companions who have arrived at the same place. We are a motley crew, distinguished not only by our inability to explain ourselves to those who are more certain of their beliefs than we are but in many cases by our distance from the centers of our faith communities as well. Like campers who have bonded over cook fires far from home, we remain grateful for the provisions that we have brought with us from those cupboards, but we also find them more delicious when we share them with one another under the star

“Bible-believing religious people often miss the gospel. Just because you believe in the Bible doesn't mean you understand it. Over and over the tax collectors, prostitutes, and the amoral come to Jesus, while the religious miss who he is.”

These are the words of well known and loved Tim Keller. Steve and Brandon Cook explore how our view and opinions about the Bible ought to grow and deepen as we grow and deepen!

SHOW NOTES

Dear Friends,

This podcast is about “The Soul of Sex.”  This is an honest, vulnerable, and transparent conversation. I talk with Jim Cress, a licensed professional and trained counselor who specializes in the soul of sex.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a conversation you need to exercise wisdom with in terms of who listens to this. It’s a mature conversation not intended for children.

But it is a conversation to enter with your friends and spouse.

When we say “where soul meets the world” in this podcast, this is a particular conversation we need to find the light and way forward.

Blessings as you listen!

Episode 84 - The Bible as Stories of Rescue, not a Weapon

SHOW NOTES Dear Friends of the Soul Care Podcast: I love hanging out with smart people.  That's what happened in this conversation with Dr. Bob Mayer.

SHOW NOTES

Dr. Robert Mayer from Gordon-Conwell is our guest today. Steve and Bob discuss how the Bible has become a club which we have weaponized to beat one another up with these days.  We quote a Scripture; use a Bible verse to prove our point and to establish a basis of believing rather than accepting the Bible as a book of rescue stories.

Bob explains that the Bible is a book of rescue stories.  Stories --that help us in our own rescue to come home.

Thanks for joining us today in this timely Conversation.
